Dave McKinney, the Springfield bureau chief for the Chicago Sun-Times, will be the keynote speaker at 5 p.m. Thursday, April 4, at the ICCJA Spring Conference at the Springfield Hilton, 700 E. Adams St. McKinney has covered state government for more than 20 years for two newspapers, The Daily Herald at Arlington Heights, and the Sun-Times.
The Illinois Community College Journalism Association’s 39th Annual Spring Conference will be April 4-5 at the Springfield Hilton, 700 E. Adams St.
Journalists from the Springfield press corps will lead sessions during the two-day conference, which will also include an afternoon session at the Abraham Presidential Museum and, of course, the announcements of winners of ICCJA’s annual editorial contest.
The 26th annual Illinois Community College Journalism Association fall conference will be held Sept. 20-21 at Eastern Illinois University.

Mitzi Miller, editor in chief of Jet Magazine, will be the keynote speaker March 29 at the 38th Annual Illinois Community College Journalism Association spring conference at Malcolm X College, Chicago.
Ms. Miller took over the top spot at Jet in May 2011 after writing for several magazines and authoring a novel.
Her presentation will be late in the afternoon on Thursday, March 29. The two-day conference will conclude with an awards luncheon at which the winners of the 2011-2012 editorial contest will be announced.
To register for the conference, members should email John Ryan, ICCJA exec director, by March 22, firstname.lastname@example.org. You also should make reservations at the convention hotel, the Crowne Plaza, 733 W. Madison, Chicago, 312.829.5000. Reservations must be made by March 15 to get the ICCJA rate of $119.
Illinois Community College Journalism Association’s Spring Conference will be held almost two weeks early this year, convening March 29-30 at Malcolm X College in Chicago for the first time.
That means the deadline for the contest and the payment of dues to be eligible for the contest and conference will be due two weeks early as well. The deadline for all entries in the 2011 editorial contest will be Feb. 17. See below for details.
